Tolerance in Islam

Tolerance in Islam is part of its teachings. It is authentically reported that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I was sent with the tolerant, lenient religion.” His fragrant biography, peace and blessings be upon him, contains many instances in which he embodied the tolerance of Islam. Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, commented on the hadith: “It combines being a lenient religion with being tolerant. It is a lenient religion in its belief in monotheism and tolerant in its actions.”
