On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may God be pleased with him), the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Among the things that benefit a believer after his death are the knowledge he taught and spread.”

– Narrated by Ibn Majah (242) A note on the hadith:

Among the benefits contained in this hadith is that books inherited from a person are considered among his good deeds that remain after his death, even if ownership passes to his heirs. It is not a condition that they be endowed (waqf).
