The concept of Islamophobia
Islamophobia is the fear of Islam and Muslims, or more precisely, the excessive fear of Islam and Muslims, or anything associated with the religion of Islam, such as mosques, Islamic centers, the Holy Quran, the veil, etc. This phenomenon is a form of racism and discrimination in people’s daily lives, whether in the media, at work, in the field of political work, etc.
The idea of Islamophobia lies in the folds of the human mind, but its practices are manifested in people’s attitudes and actions, such that it can be manifested in committing acts of violence, such as burning mosques, vandalizing property, mistreating women wearing the veil, insulting the Prophet, peace be upon him, and distorting the sacred symbols of Islam.
This was, in one way or another, an attempt to define the phenomenon of Islamophobia and its manifestations, which are not only observed through events and facts, but also through points of view, statements, behaviors, and gestures. Over the past two decades, this phenomenon has grown in some parts of the world, manifested in intensive campaigns and public discourses that spread fear of Islam, and in the large number of incidents targeting Muslims, mosques, Islamic dress, and revered Islamic figures.
